Jim Burke

Chief of Staff

Jim Burke joined Siemens Enterprise Communications in February 2010 as Chief of Staff reporting to CEO Hamid Akhavan.

Jim has over 38 years of experience in the Telecoms industry and has held various engineering and commercial positions with Bell Atlantic in the US (now called Verizon Communications), as well as various senior engineering and technology positions with start up companies like Teligent in the US and Germany. He has spent the last 9 years at Deutsche Telekom (DT) with his most recent positions including CTO for T-Mobile Austria, SVP Service Management at DT Headquarters, and EVP European Operations for T-Mobile International.

As CTO for T-Mobile Austria, Jim had responsibility for both the Network Technology and Information Technology planning, design and development, including 24/7 Operations. He delivered significant cost savings and organizational improvements while at the same time delivering the latest technology solutions for his customers. In 2009 Jim’s T-Mobile team delivered the world’s first live network implementation of LTE in his Innsbruck network.

As SVP Service Management, Jim had overall responsibility for fixed and mobile service management which focused on measuring and improving customer experience with DT’s fixed and mobile services.

As EVP European Operations, Jim had direct accountability for 24/7 operations across T-Mobile’s 5 main European operations. Jim substantially improved network quality through a 5 fold decrease in incidents over his two and a half year tenure in this position and reduced costs significantly.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Rutgers University and an Associates degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Bucks County Community College.
