Is Secure Cloud for me?

The most frequently asked questions have been answered below, however if this does not cover yours, please use the entry boxes at the bottom of this page and we will answer, reply and post online.

Why is cloud better than my premises-based solution?

Quite simply, you get a highly reliable, low risk, low cost telephony solution without the costs and resource issues associated with buying, managing and upgrading the infrastructure yourself. 'Pay-as-you-go' pricing means you will only pay for what you use, which can reduce your call costs by up to 30%, and you can scale up and down as your business changes. Also, it's future-proofed so you'll always have access to the most up-to-date applications, technologies and services.

How it is different from a hosted solution?

A hosted service usually requires you choose and procure your hardware and technology, then have it installed in a hosted data centre. Unlike a cloud solution, you'll have all the costs and risk associated with procurement, and you'll still be financially responsible for integration, maintenance and upgrade.

How is it different from a managed service?

A cloud service is a development of the traditional managed services model that many major enterprises employ. However, with cloud, you are not responsible for capital, system integration, maintenance or upgrade costs.

Cloud-based unified communications may be great for large enterprises, but is it really suitable for SMBs?

Absolutely, it's designed for small to medium sized businesses. Cloud means you get complete flexibility to add unified communications functionality to users who really need it - like a small team of sales people and remote workers - without having to change your existing telephony system - as it works on top of it. The 'pay-as-you-go' pricing means you're in complete control and have (low) predictable monthly bills. And because cloud services are hosted in completely secure environments, you don't need to worry about disaster recovery or data protection issues. It's also quick and easy to set-up - and you don't have to worry about expensive capital or management costs.

Why should I trust the cloud?

That depends on if you use OpenScape Secure Cloud Services! If you do, there is absolutely no problem. OpenScape Secure Cloud is a fully secure, robust enterprise-class communications infrastructure, with disaster recovery as standard. Services are hosted in world-class, redundant, and geographically separate data centers that are independently certified at the highest industry standard (Tier 4 TIA-942). The OpenScape Secure Cloud Services network is permanently monitored, managed and controlled 24x7. We also employ a host of security controls such as firewalls and Session Border Controllers to protect against virtual attack; voice signalling and payload encryption prevent eavesdropping on live phone calls; and we routinely 'penetration test' all our services to ensure you are completely protected.

VoIP is internet based, so what happens if my internet connection goes down?

The answer is nothing - your communications will stay up! We have a unique solution called 'OpenScape Branch' which will automatically route your call back through the PSTN if your internet service goes down.

How do I know I'm really getting cloud?
This is a good question. Because 'cloud' is increasingly popular, lots of vendors are jumping on the bandwagon and claiming to offer cloud services. Some do, others don't. We do!

We define cloud as 'on-demand access to shared resources - voice, video and unified communications (UC) applications - maintained in secure data centers and accessed via the office network or internet for home and remote users on a flexible 'pay-as-you-go' model'.

Other vendors have other definitions - and many 'solutions' include multiple products from multiple vendors that have been cobbled together in an effort to create a single solution. Others require you to buy or base servers in your premises. These are not truly comprehensive cloud servers.
What if I like the idea of telecoms in the cloud but don't want UC?

That's fine - and we recognise different businesses have different needs. We believe we can cut your telephony costs by 30% by moving to the cloud so if that's all you want, then we have a package for you. The beauty of the cloud means that if you do want to take advantage of the business benefits of technologies such as presence, audio and web conferencing and a host of others, you can add these (in a modular fashion) whenever you like with a quick phone call to your OpenScape Cloud Certified Partner. There are packages to suite any requirement. We won't sell you a Rolls Royce if you want a mini - but we think it's good to know you are working with a partner that can give you a Rolls Royce if you want one!

Where does my information sit? Is there a risk here?

This is another key question, and the answer is simple. We only store email addresses and telephone numbers (and voice mails if you choose that option). This data is stored in totally secure data centers and we comply with all US and European data regulations.
