Siemens Enterprise Communications selected for public sector UK distribution framework

Milton Keynes, U.K. , Jul 04, 2011

Siemens awarded Managed Telecommunications Convergence Framework to provide telephony services in support of the Public Services Network

Siemens Enterprise Communications has been selected as only one of three companies to be awarded a UK framework to provide telephony services to the Public Sector within the Government Procurement Service Managed Telecommunications Convergence Framework (MTCF). The new framework will replace the current Managed Telecommunications Services (MTS) and will enable organisations to procure services in support of the Public Services Network (PSN) and managed telephony, conferencing and data networking solutions.

Within the new framework, Siemens Enterprise Communications will provide its complete portfolio of voice, applications and service capabilities and, supported by BT to provide network connectivity, a complete end-to-end solution to enable seamless PSN integration. The managed telecommunications services framework offers a stepping stone to the PSN by enabling solutions to be bought directly for new implementation and upgrades.

Michael Bowyer, director of Public Sector strategy, Siemens Enterprise Communications commented: “Siemens Enterprise Communications, supported by BT, is dedicated to delivering both traditional and next generation communication services that will provide efficient and scalable solutions, as well as enabling best practice working methods throughout the public sector. Being awarded this framework is a central part of our drive towards the successful development of the PSN.”

Stuart Hill, VP, Central Government and London 2012 Programme, BT Global Services, said: “We are pleased to support Siemens Enterprise Communications in offering our extensive network capabilities in delivering this important part of the Government’s PSN agenda.”

The managed telecommunications convergence framework is now live and is open to all UK Public Sector bodies. Those working within the existing MTS contract have been contacted by Government Procurement Service to enable transitional progression towards MTCF services.

About Managed Telecommunications Convergence Framework (MTCF)

The MTCF is the successor to the existing Managed Telecommunications Service (Mts) contract, which is due to expire on 31 December 2011, and provides convergence towards the existing and emerging Public Services Network (PSN) standards.

The agreement provides managed telecommunications services to facilitate inter-organisational collaboration through secure communication, interoperability and sharing of information.  The services available include voice, video, unified communications and network services, plus associated design, consultancy and other professional and supporting services.  The framework agreement can be used by all public sector organisations and has an initial term of two years, with the option to extend for two further terms each of up to one year’s duration.

In addition to being the successor to Mts, other customers may call-off contracts under this framework agreement either directly or via a lead contracting authority such as Government Procurement Service.

Note for Editors: Government Procurement Service (formally Buying Solutions) is part of Government Procurement.
